Wolf

A reader from Bradford, Ontario, wrote to say ... We live on 10th Side Road. We hear coyotes all the time. On December 3rd around 12:30 we heard howling. It sounded like more than one and there was no yipping. I have never heard this before.

A reader from Balinifad, Ontario, recently wrote to say ... Driving home from work, going north on Trafalgar Road (right before Scotsdale Farm) I saw a large grey Wolf (?) run across the road. It was much larger and longer than a dog, not as lanky as a Coyote, grey in colour, long bushy tail. My immediate thought was Wolf!

Karine from Kingston, Ontario, wrote to say ... Going for my nightly walk, as I work nights and have my lunch time at 3:00 am, I spotted a Wolf walking across John Counter Boulevard at Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard.

Lily from Brantford, Ontario, wrote to tell us ... I just got onto the ramp to enter highway 401 from Woodstock when, before I could merge onto the highway, I see a Wolf come up from the side ditch and prance along the shoulder. It was 7:00 pm. Definitely not a dog, Fox nor Coyote. Long tail, pointy ears and the way it moved, it pranced and I'm convinced it was a Wolf!

A reader from Kitchener, Ontario, wrote to us recently and said ... Hello, Grey Wolves are quite common in this area as I have quite frequently heard howling and even got the unnerving experience of seeing one for myself! Near the Sunbeam Lodge, stay clear at night is my advice, the large male I encountered seemed hungry and vicious!

Thank you all for writing to tell us about your encounters with Wolves - although they are usually not seen so far south, there are Wolf-Coyote hybrids in the area - called Coy-Wolves, which may be what some of these sightings are, although there have been confirmed Wolf sightings in the Ottawa area.

If any other readers have seen Wolf-like animals in Southern Ontario, please write and let us know - we'd love to hear from you!

My husband and I just saw two white/grey wolves in Kitchener at Ira Needles and Victoria Road by the roundabouts near the Harveys.

The first wolves (perhaps alpha male) was majestic and walking calmly leading the other wolf who was coming out of the hill area, more hesitant to step on the sidewalk. We are in awe. We’ve ever seen wolves this close (we were in our car and slowed down as it was 11:45 pm) on Dec 29. Very serene moment we will not forget!

I just saw what looked to be a very large Wolf in our back yard, much too large to be a Coyote. Mount Pleasant, Brant County, Ontario
