Wild Boar by Lake Simcoe

Driving home to my house just south of Island Grove on the shore of Lake Simcoe, I saw a short-haired grey animal cross the road in front of me, heading for the lake.

It was stocky, had a long snout and legs like a mid-sized dog, a flat back.

It was not an Opossum (too small) and its back was too flat.

After researching pictures of animals, I believe it was a Wild Boar.

It was seen on November 17, 2011 at 8 p.m. on Lake Drive North.

Wow, that is interesting, I wonder if any other readers have spotted this animal in your area. If you have, please let us know.

Boar sighting
by: Thomas

I saw a wild Boar off Highway 169 near Bala between Madora Lake and the highway. It was at 4 am and it ran under a big light so I could see it very clear that it was a wild Boar. I was about 20 feet from it, walking.

Wild Boar in Ramara?
by: Anonymous

In Ramara township between Atherley and Uptergrove - we were having a bonfire last night (Sept 25/15) and heard a pig going after another animal. I didn't see it, but no doubt that by the sounds it was making it was a large pig - possibly a feral boar.

Wild Boar in Kawarthas
by: mark

Coming home from work I turned down north Mountain Lake Road off of Victoria Road. I witnessed 5 wild Boar, all black, hump on shoulders, coarse hair maybe 200 plus pounds. I stopped to watch and they all looked at me. It didn't even fizz them that I was there. Didn't know they were in Ontario.

Unknown critter
by: Anonymous

Last night coming home about 11:30 and crossing Doncaster near the railroad underpass, I saw something that had me puzzled. Some animal ran across in front of my car, about a foot long, dark in color and shaped like a rat. It was running low to the ground like it was sniffing for something. Only it was no rat. The odd thing was it had a short bushy tail about 4 inches long that was constantly turning. The reason I knew it wasn't a rat because in my youth I have dispatched a lot of them in the local dump. Any idea what that was?

Drought
by: Andy

The drought has caused Cougar migration into Ontario from down south, so I am not surprised one bit by other animals like the Wild Boar showing up.

I'm more worried about the Cougars because they can kill you and drag you up a tree too eat you, there also known for eating your pet when you let them outside.

Not many hunters here compared too America so they will probably like it here more.

Extremely Dangerous for the ecosystem
by: Roman

Hi there,

I am a Dogo Argentino breeder located in Toronto.
Wild boar is extremely dangerous for our ecosystem
and our communities, not only are they dangerous but the reproduce very quickly. They must be kept under control.

If anyone sees Wild Boar in any area in Ontario please contact me A.S.A.P.

Best Regards,

I saw a Wild Boar too
by: Dale

I live near Belwood Lake and came home to find my two dogs had cornered what I thought was a black lab. When I got closer I realized it was a black, very wide, long haired pig with tusks.

If anyone else sees it please tell me. My dogs seem to have bit it a few times in the butt.

Wild boar sighting
by: Anonymous

This doesnt sound like a wild boar. Although extremely rare to see in Ontario, we just had two run across the road in front of us this morning north of Ajax. They are very round backed and distinctly look like black hogs. Mighty ugly with longer hair and nasty tusks.
