We spotted a Weasel in our backyard, just outside St Thomas.
We have seen him in the summer with his brown and beige fur, and we also spotted him over the Christmas holidays in his winter-whites!
Thanks for sending us your pictures, Christina, what an adorable little fella!
I just learned a little about the Weasel in Ontario.
Ontario has three species of small weasels:
The Short-tailed Weasel, or ermine (Mustela erminea)
The Long-tailed Weasel (Mustela frenata)
The Least Weasel (Mustela rixosa)
The first two species have more economic importance than the third. The Least weasel, the smallest carnivore in the world, is quite rare.
One of our readers recently wrote ... Ontario has three species of Weasels
Short Tailed Weasel aka Ermine, Long Tailed Weasel and the Least Weasel
The short-tailed weasel, or ermine, is found throughout North America. The long-tailed weasel is found in southern Canada. The least weasel, although rare, is distributed throughout Canada north of the Great Lakes.
Their pelts turn brown in the summer and white in the winter.
Thanks for the info!
