Ian B wrote to report ... I have lately noticed a Turkey Vulture in my neighborhood soaring over a copse, since early this year. I originally thought it was a Red Tailed Hawk. This is in North Brampton Ontario (43.42.22N 79.46.29W). In the last few days there were two birds, obviously a mating pair on patrol. Beautiful flyers!!!!
Liesa W from Ivanhoe said ... on September 25, 2021 we saw a group of 16 Turkey Vultures flying over our property in Ivanhoe, Ontario. They landed in a couple of trees and began opening their wings to sun themselves. It was quite a sight.
One of our readers said ... Just saw about two dozen Turkey Vultures soaring above our neighbourhood near QEW / Dixie Road in Mississauga. This was around 3:00 pm on October 19, 2021.
Lorri says ... I live in Grimsby Ontario. My property has 5 very tall old white pine trees and for the past 6 years that I have lived there in the spring dozens of Turkey Vultures would rest in my trees each night and take flight each morning and then return in the evening. Then during the warm summer months they seemed to find a new place to rest at night, I would not see them all summer then in the fall, October generally they would return for a month or two before migrating for the winter. I have always enjoyed watching them, found it fascinating, people would stop on their walks to admire or pull over and get out of their cars. I'm wondering if anyone could help me figure out why this year they have stayed all spring summer and into the fall. Although I have always enjoyed them, I would like them to spend their summers else place, their poop stinks!!! That is my only complaint about them, but its bad enough that I don't want them in my trees all summer. Anyone have suggestions on how to deter them from hanging in my trees all summer, spring and fall I absolutely enjoy having them. Also anyone know why this year they stayed all summer? Thank you Lorri
Daniel N from Mississauga wrote ... I saw two large Turkey Vultures eating a large dead Opossum in the Clarkson area by Food Basics field on Truscott Drive in the afternoon. I have never seen anything like that before in my life.
Thank you all for your reports of Turkey Vulture sightings.
