Possible sighting of a large dark grey/ black wolf

I was travelling south from Ottawa City along Limebank Road towards Manotick, Ottawa, at 15:30 hrs on 02/05/12 when I saw what I supposed was a large dark coloured dog.

But It appeared to me to be too tall for dog, and too long and large to be either a Fox or a Coyote.

It was running across an open field towards further open fields, there are no wooded areas in close vicinity.

I was driving so I couldn't take a photograph of this magnificent beast.
