Owl in Sault Ste Marie

Last night around 8 pm I was heading out to the shed that's out at the very back of our yard. It just snowed, about 4 - 5 inches of fluffy stuff, and we have 4 huge oak trees in our yard the tree closest to the shed had no leaves and the branches were covered with snow.

As I walked in the dark to lock up the shed, I had to walk under the branches which are only a few feet above my head. As I looked up and turned around I took about two steps and snow fell then as I went to look up I only could tell it was big and caused me to duck down and as I did I could see the big shadow it cast over the ground. At this point it scared the ca-jeepers out of me.

I never knew what it was until I looked over my shoulder as I was getting away from that spot, I saw it spread-winged and landed on a branch in another tree, about25 feet away.

He stopped and I stopped and we kinda had a funny moment between us. His back was to me and I was just coming to the conclusion that it was a huge owe, his head turned around and we just stared at each other.

He opened up his wings like to adjust himself, and all I could say out loud was "You're one Big Beautiful Bird".

But as I looked down to grab my cell to take a picture he was gone.

What is still bugging me a bit is there was never a sound from him when he moved.

As for a total visual appearance I really couldn't say what the body colour was, but it was the light brown, beige colour around his eyes, the size of a hockey puck each one. I own an Umbrella Cockatoo bird named "Zella" because of his size, but this owl was amazingly huge.

I feel blessed for our few minutes of staring at each other.

I HOPE HE DECIDES TO MAKE MY YARD HIS HOME. MY TREES ARE HIS TREES IF HE WISHES TO STAY. I WILL BE TRYING TO FEED HIM TODAY.

Thank you so much for telling us your charming tale of the Owl on your property. I hope it has come back many times to see you!
