Gerald T wrote ... while stepping out of the house at 06:00 hrs for a breath of air I noticed a very large white and brown animal scurrying across my lawn. When I said "Wow" in a average voice, the animal stopped dead in its tracks and stared at me, allowing me to get a look. I realized that it wasn’t a Muskrat or Ground Hog on the lawn but a flipping Possum. I never though they could grow that big, however after staring at each other for about 20 seconds, the Possum turned away from me and headed into our stack of cinder blocks to hide. I ran to get my phone to get a photo but I was too late, it had already run off. What a picture that would have been. I haven’t heard of any Possum sightings in our area of Bradley, Ontario (near Paisley).
Harvey P said ... There is a Possum that lives near me. I see her often at night. This morning I witnessed a baby riding on her back as she went by.
A reader said ... I just took my dog out for his last nightly pee and an Opossum was on my back fence. Downey Road, Guelph, Ontario
Lynne from Tillsonburg said ... a Big fella seems to be pretty comfortable living under the shed.
One of our readers from Wasaga Beach said ... I saw a Possum at dusk on the lawn and our neighbours are also saying they are seeing them. Some spotted them close to the bay.
S Shephard wrote to say ... we have one hiding behind our shovel on the front porch, here in Barrie. Really hoping he will move on so our dog can go outside.
One of our readers from Sarnia wrote ... we spotted a pair of Possums in our yard a couple nights ago, eating bread and stale dog biscuits we threw out for the birds and squirrels. My daughter was so excited and named them. One was back tonight but soon left because we hadn't left food out.
One of our readers spotted an Opossum ... I was shocked to see my first Possum ever in Angus, Ontario. Had I not been so shocked (I didn't even know we had Possums in Canada) I would have taken it's picture. As soon as I made noise I frightened it away.
Victor wrote to say ... I think I saw one sleeping high in the trees in Hawks cliff, Ontario. Just south of St Thomas.
Theresa B from Forest, Ontario wrote ... my son and his girlfriend came in the backyard about 10 p.m. to see a very large Possum scurry under our deck. They think it was a Possum, but the porch light was not very bright. I was a bit shocked as I thought it too cold in winter for them here.
Ange from Markham wrote ... I let my dog out for an evening potty break. She rushed to the fence and started her "intruder bark". I went out to investigate, and saw the tiny face of an Opossum peeping through the fence. Didn't get a picture as I was more concerned about getting my dog back indoors, but I'm certain it was an Opossum and not a Raccoon or Skunk!
One of our readers from Hamilton said ... we have an Opossum that has made a den under the concrete steps leading to the patio and front door. It comes out each night, it's quite large so must be finding food.
A reader from Trent Hills said ... we have Opossums on a trail camera in our backyard in Campbellford, Ontario, Canada. It has been there several nights.
Stanley from Markham reported ... a pair of Possums wandered through my backyard in Markham, Ontario. First time in 60 years, living in Ontario, to have seen a Possum. My son saw then at the tender age of 19. I googled and found this site, to realize they are not native to Ontario. What a relief. I thought I was just not observant enough.
Mary from Stoney Creek wrote ... in the early morning hours, I spotted what I thought was one of the neighbourhood cats under the shrubs in a corner of my garden. There is one cat that is mostly white with some dark markings. After sniffing around, it finally emerged and I could identify it as a Possum. I hope it’s eating insect larvae and ticks. I live in a suburban area.
Jim from Windsor wrote ... I have one living in my back yard tool shed, as I just discovered - April 29, 2022. It looks like it's been living there for a while, has made a comfy 'nest' for itself using dead leaves. We live in the area of Windsor known as Walkerville, near the Detroit River.
Lois from Port Rowan said ... this cute little creature showed up in our backyard several times - we went out to check him/her out and as long as we were still, he/she moved to investigate, but as soon as we moved he/she darted away. Long Point Bay.
Raymonde M wrote ... for 2 summers now we have seen our little friend Paul the Possum. First sighting was an evening while relaxing on the back terrace. The Possum crossed our yard, ignoring us totally. Then this summer I wasn't sure if he was still with us when I opened the tool shed and found him sleeping on top of the tool bench. I have seen him, in the very same spot, curled up, many times since then.
