We have received several reports of Opossums recently - here are some of them.

Iris from Oshawa wrote ... something had been digging fairly deep holes in my front lawn in Oshawa, Ontario, and it was quite a mess. One evening at 10:00 I saw a possum walking up the front lawn. It has also been seen by other neighbours.

A reader from Hamilton wrote ... Yes - I saw a Possum crawling around at night when snow was starting to melt.

Marnie from Innisfil wrote to say ... I just saw my first Possum in Innisfil Ontario two blocks from Lake Simcoe, across from Friday Harbour Resort. I was so surprised I didn’t think to take a photo!

Anne from Port Dover said ... I got up a little early, looked out a ground floor window of our Port Dover house and saw a possum making its way through the garden underneath the shrubs. It was pouring rain, so he looked very bedraggled!

Margaret from Windsor reported ... I spotted one walking by my door at night. About the size of a cat, gray fur with a long naked tail. Could not get a photo but was also seen by friends the day before.

Roger from Don Mills said ... I live in North York, south of York Mills Rd., west of the DVP and close to a Don River tributary ravine. Unfortunately, I awoke this morning after a very heavy rainfall during the night, to find an Opossum at the bottom of the swimming pool. Such a shock and such a shame. It was a beautiful little animal. We have had our pool over 40 years and this is the first animal to succumb to drowning and such a rare and beautiful one too. Such a shame. I have never seen an Opossum all these years, I wonder about its mate or its family?

Richard from Thornhill wrote to report ... Started seeing one possum a few months ago. Now last night there were two. They were on the wall at backyard and seems they prefer my backyard because I grow vegetables in summer and lots of snails. One is almost size of a cat.

Pamela from Palgrave said ... Found one in my recycle box chewing on pizza box and another playing ‘possum’ after my dogs discovered it. Called the dogs off, no creatures were hurt in this encounter. Rural property.
