Coyotes in Windsor Ontario

by Zach
(Windsor, Ontario, Canada)

There are four Coyotes that we have spotted by our house.

We live next to a forest and there are Coyotes, and they have killed small dogs in the area.

This is just ten minutes from the Ambassador Bridge.

Quite the Surprise
by: Anonymous

Saw a coyote yesterday evening (near dusk) just North of Riverside Drive near Lakeview. Passed through an empty lot, through a neighbour's yard and kept on going. It all happened so fast but had a good enough look to see that it definitely was a coyote. They're here!

I spotted the same large coyote on September 6th around 4 am on Armstrong Avenue near Joinville Avenue coming out between two houses with a dead rabbit in its jaws. And on Sept. 10th trotting quickly for prey west on Adstoll Avenue towards Pillette Road around 5 am. Keep your pets inside or be careful when walking your dog very early.

Hybrid coyote in Mick Mack Park July 5/18
by: Kaye Hayes

At 7 a.m. spotted a, what I thought was a large gray dog off leash, I did not see an owner but did see park staff in same vicinity. I recognized the "dog" as a coyote. As it trotted past my car, within 6 to 7 feet, I noted that it was larger than my female German Shepherd. The city seems to think that coyotes are natural wild animals in Ontario. They are not indigenous to Ontario and are an invasive sub-species of coyote-wolf hybrids and two killed a young woman in Cape Breton.

Coyote sighting - Pillette and Riverside
by: Anonymous

I was helping my son deliver papers down by the river and as I was sitting in my car waiting for him a Coyote ran by. The moment I saw him I thought it was a fairly large dog but it only took a second or two before I realized that I was looking at a coyote. This was just east of Pilette and Riverside Drive. The thing is, I live in the Fountain Blue area and when I walk around the neighbourhood at night, there are rabbits EVERYWHERE. There are literally hundreds of them running around. If a coyote can run wild down by the river than they can easily come to my neighbourhood, which is more on the outskirts of the city, since there will be an abundance of food for them with all those rabbits. So if you have cats and let them roam around at night, just be a little bit cautious about this. I have a cat that I let roam around at night but I'm not really worried about him cause he'll kick a coyote's butt! Little guy literally thinks he's a black panther and owns my neighbourhood. LOL.

Coyote at Remington Dog Park
by: Anonymous

November 2, 2013, I have just seen a Coyote in Windsor at Remington Park, 29 feet from the largest dog park in Windsor. He went and chased my dog, he ran when I yelled. I enjoy taking my dog off the leash and letting him run free in the forest. We go every day now for 4 years, and I will never let my dog go in the forest area again, since at times he gets a little too far.

Surrounded by coyotes in Windsor
by: Anonymous

We constantly see coyotes turning up all over LaSalle, Windsor, Tecumseh and all over Essex County because we are tearing down their habitats and they are just wandering around in need of a new one and not sure where to start. The new construction on the Hwy 3 Bypass/Huron Church Road is a prime example. So many trees and bushes torn down, where does all the wildlife go? They are getting braver and braver now wandering down busy streets in broad daylight. I feel sorry for them, they are lost and unsure....

Coyotes in Devonwood Conservation Area
by: Anonymous

I was just told today that there are Coyotes in Devonwood Conservation area. I believe it's because there are deer there. The person that saw them called 311 and was told there was nothing they could do. She has seen about 4 adults and young ones. This is an area where people walk the trails and bring their dogs, and children also walk through there. There is nothing the city will do about it!

Coyotes dig holes too
by: Anonymous

We had a compost pile out back and the Coyote(s) dug holes under two fences to get to the fresh compost. We quit composting, filled up the holes and we haven't seen any signs of them in the yard again. They've been keeping on the other side of the fence, near the tracks, yelping away at night.

Coyotes at Banwell / EC Row Expressway
by: Anonymous

I have been hearing Coyotes every night outside my window. Loud yelps, howls, and barks. It sounds like there are at least 10 of them doing this at once. They actually keep me up all night. I'm concerned they will come into the backyard and attack my small dogs. Are they able to climb fences or dig underneath them?

Yes, they can, and do, jump fences so you should be outside with your small pets if you know there are Coyotes around.

Coyotes in Tecumseh
by: cody

About 4 days ago my girlfriend and I spotted two Coyotes running down our road, right off of Banwell Road.

I tried to get a close up on them but my video camera wasn't working of course, my luck, anyhow tonight I went for a ride around the block while having a cigarette at about 2am and the two Coyotes ran right out in front of me this time.

I quickly turned around and grabbed my cell phone out of the ashtray and intensely followed them, it was pretty cool seeing them that close.

I have lived in Tecumseh for twenty years now and always heard them yelping as a kid, but now finally got to see them.

Opinion
by: Anonymous

We are disturbing the environment by cutting down all the bushes. I also think that because of all the construction lately near the airport they are disturbing their home.

They will adapt to what they have available. I find them a pretty interesting animal.

Just won't trust any small animals out in the backyard at night. Keep an eye if they are outside late.

Coyotes in Windsor
by: Fred

Just saw one this evening in South Walkerville. April 13, 2011 around 3am.

I was driving west on Ypres from Walker and this bugger was running through the intersection at Lincoln.

I followed him north on Lincoln to Lens where he then turned west again.

The whole trip he ran right down the middle of the road and kept looking back at me.

Nasty looking bugger. How come these things are showing up in the city?
