Coyotes in Galt and Hespeler, Cambridge

Coyotes! Lots of Cambridge sightings. One on Jamieson Parkway around 11 p.m.

Two separate sightings at Conestoga Blvd/Pinebush (one in the intersection, one crossing the railway tracks, both around 10 p.m., years apart)

Two coyotes together running along Bishop (between Conestoga Blvd and Franklin) at around 9 p.m.

One crossing Hespeler Road into Dumfries Conservation Area at night.

I heard howling this spring, walking my dog around Burnett at night.

Could hear two of them howling, one on my side of the street (behind the houses) and one further away on the other side.

Spooked my dog!

Thanks for letting us know - there sure is a lot of Coyote activity in your neck of the woods!

Coyote in Riverside Park
by: Anonymous

I was just walking (at approximately 7:15) my Beagle-Border Collie cross in Riverside Park in Preston near the tennis courts by the playground when I saw, what I first thought was a dog without a leash or owner. I stopped walking and as it crossed under a light near the restrooms, I realized it was a coyote. Not knowing if it saw us and fearful for my dog's safety, I quickly turned around and trotted as quickly out of the park as we could go. No more evening walks in there for us.

On Friday June 8 2018 I had my dog off leash in the park out by the basketball court and a coyote came out of the bush after my boxer I started screaming and my dog backed down and the coyote ran back into the bush I got my bog on her leash and headed up the hill to my car. The coyote came back out but did not come close. We froze and it left. This all happened at around 2 pm. Thank goodness she only suffered a small wound.

Coyote Sighting Hooewell Rd & Fairview Preston Cambridge
by: Anonymous

Around 1:30 am calling my cat home, I spotted large golden haired coyote at the crossing the base of Hopewell Rd moving north to south along Fairview Rd. I have never seen coyotes come right into a residential area before. It stopped briefly to observe us. I grabbed the cat and went inside. Scarey. I've seen coyotes in the area before, one crossing Coronation Blvd toward N. Dumfies Conservation area in broad daylight; another while walking on a side trail along the river at the base of Bishop St. What is the town doing about this coyote invasion? It's too bad something bad has to happen before anything is done to relocate these coyotes anyone does anything - like a child being bitten. I know several pooches and cats have gone missing in the area. Will have to keep everyone inside at nite. Need help building a cat enclosure in the backyard - limited funds - temporarily retired. I love all animals and don't want them killed; must relocate way way out if town

Black Coyote sighting on Brewster trail Cambridge
by: Anonymous

I took my dog for a walk today (April 14, 2018) and saw a black Coyote on the Brewster trail on the hill across from one of the public schools. It started to come down the hill to check us out so I yelled at it and it stopped. I walked backwards with my dog to make sure it wasn't following us and when it appeared again I stopped and yelled at it some more and stomped and it seemed to slow/stop. When I knew we were close to a neighborhood I ran to it.

Churchill park
by: Anonymous

I have come across coyotes in two separate occasions at Churchill Park in Cambridge. First time my two shepherds chased after one where they came to a stop at the edge of the forest. I noticed 4-6 other coyotes waiting in the bush. I believe that the one was trying to lure my dogs to the pack. He kept following us back to my car after trying to leave. Both encounters were early in the morning before 7 am. Just a warning to small dog owners that have their pets off leash.

Black Coyote Sighting
by: Anonymous

Just saw a black Coyote on the trail off Queen Street, Hespeler known as the Brewster Trail. It was in the bush and actually just pretty much ignored me ... my concern is that this trail is used by school children to get to and from their school, so without scaring people, I'm guessing people should be warned and use appropriate precautions if they encounter one!
