Big Black Cat

by Cosmo Macri
(Ottawa area, Ontario, Canada)

I was biking along bike path going west just before Orleans Boulevard.

I went to my right towards river on a gravel road, just before a wooden bridge.

About .25 km in, to my left was a clearing with a big black cat right in the middle of it.

Head to the ground it looked like it was hunting something.

I would give it a guess of about 150 lbs, this was about 11:00 am September 25, 2015.

Big Black Cat sighting

I saw a big black cat, like a cougar, slinking through a field near St Thomas, Ontario, last summer.

Was it a black panther?
by: Anonymous

Upon entering the south access to highway 400 from highway 141 my wife and I spotted a large black cat about to cross the pavement. It quickly retreated into the surrounding cover. We got a very good look at this black CAT, it was about 2 meters long with glossy black fur and a long ,full curving tail. It also appeared to be well fed and healthy! There absolutely was no mistaking what we both saw!! It was a magnificent animal!

Leopard or Black Bear
by: MMM

That's an interesting and unusual sighting. Did you report it to the MNR? There are no black Pumas but there are melanin tic (black) Jaguars that are kept as exotic pets and then escape or illegally released. Did it have a long tail? Sometimes, at a glance, a young or emancipated black bear might be mistaken for a big wildcat.

Leopard?

Could it have been a leopard? I read online there were sightings in the Ottawa area.
