A Possum Visitor in My Garden
by Marilyn, Lynda & several other readers
(Thornhill, Etobicoke, Caesarea)
During the month of March 2013, we have received many, many reports of Possums in Southern Ontario.
Two came from readers in Thornhill, two came from Etobicoke, and another from Caesarea.
On March 10th, Marilyn from Thornhill told us about a Possum Visitor in her Garden! She says ..... I just spotted a Possum in my back yard at 8:45 this morning. Sunday, March 10, 2013. It was quite a heavy looking one. We saw one two summers ago as well. I managed to get a picture of it as it crawled along a small wall I have at the back of a flower bed. Our yard has many mature trees and a pond. I am wondering what is attracting them to our property.
On March 7th which was garbage night in Thornhill, another readers said ..... Curious grey creature, long face and skinny black tail about the size of our cat approached and watched from a few feet away.
On March 9th, Lynda from Etobicoke, Ontario, says ..... Possum spotted outside my patio door, this large rat-like animal tried to open my rubbermaid container outside my patio door at 11pm. When I tried to open to door to scare it away, it definite would not go away. In fact, I was very afraid it was going to get inside the house! Scary looking....long pink furless tail with very sharp fang-like teeth!
Another reader reports Possums in Toronto, they said ..... March 9th 2013, saw one tonight coming out of my backyard in south Etobicoke. He stopped, waited for a bit so that we could get a good look at him, turned around and off into the darkness he went.
On March 8th 2013, one of our readers wrote ..... I live in Caesarea on the east shore of lake Scugog. I was home on holidays and at 2:30 pm in the afternoon I looked out the window. I wasn't sure what it was. I watched it walk through the snow along my house and through neighbours yard and not sure where it went from there. Looked it up on internet and definitely a white possum. Noted the tail and nose and feet. Never seen one - kind of ugly but new species.
Thank you all for sending us your reports of your Possum sightings!
We have received many this month, and I'll be posting more soon!
